he Stepping Stone is a design concept space incorporating sustainable materials, artwork from local painters and photographers, wine from small bio-dynamic Washington and Oregon vineyards, beer from regional small-batch breweries and select organic west coast sake. The menu features fresh organic seasonal greens and cheese from Ballard Farmers Market, fresh baguettes from the Tall Grass Organic Bakery, organic olives homemade aoli and mustards.

he custom woodwork at the Stepping Stone is a rare collection of local and regionally salvaged old growth fir and black walnut. The bar top is close to 300 years old, milled from a 42' beam pulled from an old Ballard warehouse. The booth seats are solid vertical grain fir panels refashioned from 100 year old bleacher board from Holt Elementary School in Portland, Oregon. The booth table tops are joined slabs of local, windfall black walnut. The stone under the bar is cut from a quarry on Vancouver island, British Columbia, called ocean pearl. It is the only cut quarry stone available that originates from the Pacific Northwest. The beadboard along the seating area walls are aged fir patina with original wainscoting salvaged from a 90 year farm outside of Seattle. The fir floors, windows, posts and beams are in their original state, dating back to the building's groundbreaking in 1913.
